Platte River staff give back to the communities we serve by contributing to fundraising efforts, participating in volunteer activities and organizing donation drives that support important local causes.
2026 Roy J. Rohla Memorial Scholarship recipient
Platte River Power Authority congratulates Wyatt Rickman, the 2026 recipient of the Roy J. Rohla Memorial Scholarship. A recent graduate of Skyline High School in Longmont, Rickman will attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska, to pursue an intensive training and certification program to become a lineworker, with a particular interest in high-voltage transmission lines.

To be eligible to receive the Roy J. Rohla Memorial Scholarship, applicants:
- Must be a student enrolled in a four-year university or working toward an associate degree, or a graduating high school senior interested in pursuing electrical energy studies
- Must have a permanent home address within Platte River’s four owner communities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont or Loveland

The Platte River Power Authority/Alltricity Scholarship Foundation scholarship is named after Roy J. Rohla who was the engineering manager and plant manager at the Rawhide Energy Station during his 20-year career at Platte River.
Applications for the 2027 Roy J. Rohla Memorial Scholarship will open in late fall 2026, with submissions due in early 2027.
Workforcedevelopment
Inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals is an important part of what we do. We offer workforce development opportunities for student groups interested in exploring careers in STEM and skilled trades.
Whether we visit your classroom or you visit us, students will have the chance to learn directly from industry professionals, gain insight into real-world career paths and ask questions about education, training and workforce opportunities. These interactive experiences help students better understand the skills and pathways needed for future success.
Colorado State University Energy Institute Mobile Classroom

The mobile classroom offers hands-on science modules appropriate for K-12 students at no cost to schools. The Clean Energy Labs feature:
- Curriculum-relevant, age-appropriate and customizable engineering material that covers topics in STEAM
- Hands-on experiences that educate and inspire students
- Expert content provided by CSU researchers at the forefront of hydrogen, wind, solar, and more
Spotlight: Supporting innovationthrough Ram Racing
Platte River and Efficiency Works proudly support Colorado State University’s Ram Racing Formula SAE Electric team as they design, build and compete with a student-engineered electric race car. Our sponsorship helps provide students with hands-on experience in electric vehicle technology, engineering and innovation while preparing the next generation of energy leaders
Brightening lives through community giving
Platte River is committed to supporting and strengthening the communities we serve through community partnerships, volunteerism and charitable giving. We participate in a variety of local events, service projects and support nonprofit organizations through financial contributions.

United Way of Larimer County
At Platte River Power Authority, employees come together each year to support United Way of Larimer County through an engaging workplace fundraising campaign that strengthens our local community. Through employee donations, special events, and volunteerism, our team demonstrates a strong commitment to giving back. Their dedication has helped earn Platte River United Way campaign recognition for six consecutive years, reflecting a culture of service and community impact.
Rocky Mountain Raptor Program
Platte River Power Authority proudly supports the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program through sponsorships that provide no-cost educational presentations to local Title I schools, helping connect students with wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship. We also support the organization's vital work rehabilitating injured and orphaned birds of prey, contributing to the protection of these remarkable species and the ecosystems they call home. ArborDay
Each year, Platte River supports Arbor Day celebrations in our owner communities, helping promote environmental stewardship and the benefits of a healthy urban forest. These events give students and community members opportunities to learn about trees, sustainability and caring for the places we call home.

Energy Explorers with Efficiency Works is a fun, free and informative educational energy program designed to help 4th graders learn about efficiency concepts.
