Platte River welcomes new board member

Travis Walker, Light and Power director for the City of Fort Collins, joins board of directors

FORT COLLINS, Colo., The Fort Collins City Council appointed Travis Walker, Light and Power director for the City of Fort Collins, to Platte River Power Authority’s Board of Directors during the council’s regular meeting on May 19.

“Travis joins our board during a pivotal time for Platte River and our owner communities,” said Jason Frisbie, general manager and CEO for Platte River. “I value his leadership experience and utilities expertise and look forward to his guidance on our board.”

Walker began his career with the City of Fort Collins, where he spent more than a decade as a lineworker before being promoted to a leadership role in 2010. He was director of electric distribution for over nine years and has served as director of Light and Power since 2024, bringing extensive technical expertise and industry experience to Platte River’s Board.

“I look forward to serving on Platte River’s Board and working closely with our municipal partners and Platte River to advance the region’s energy transition,” said Walker. “I’m proud of the progress already made and eager to support continued environmental responsibility while maintaining a strong focus on cost and reliability.”

Platte River generates and delivers electricity to Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland, each represented by two members on its board of directors. The mayor - or a designated elected official - serves alongside an appointed representative, typically the municipality’s utility director, providing a balance of community oversight and technical expertise.

Walker replaces Tyler Marr who served on Platte River’s board since January 2024. Marr resigned from the City of Fort Collins earlier this month and will join Platte River’s business strategies division.

"I appreciate Tyler’s engagement and advocacy during his tenure on our board,” adds Frisbie. “His extensive leadership experience in city government will be critical for Platte River as we continue building out the virtual power plant and integrating other functions with our owner communities.”

Fort Collins City Manager Kelly DiMartino shared her support for both her former deputy and the current director of Light and Power.

“Tyler is an exceptional leader and dedicated advocate for public service. While we are sad to see him leave our City leadership team, we are pleased he will continue serving Fort Collins and our regional partners in this new role,” said DiMartino. “I’m also excited about Travis’s appointment to the board and confident his leadership and expertise will make a meaningful impact as we continue advancing the energy transition with our municipal partners.”

Walker’s first Platte River board meeting will be on Thursday, May 28.
