Customers asked to reduce energy use
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Widespread high temperatures, an increase in electric generation resource outages and low production from wind turbines and solar fields across the western footprint of the Southwest Power Pool has prompted the regional transmission organization to issue an energy emergency alert in the region, including the Platte River Power Authority. Customers in Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont and Loveland are asked to reduce use of electricity from now until 9 p.m.
“We are monitoring conditions and working closely with SPP regarding this emergency alert,” says Jason Frisbie, general manager and CEO of Platte River Power Authority, “and we are asking customers to reduce their demand for electricity.”
Customers within the four owner communities are asked to reduce demand on non-critical appliances including turning up the thermostat on air conditioners and postponing the use of dishwashers and clothes washers and electric dryers, or other electrical devices through 9 p.m. tonight.
